What is your experience of time spent in nature?
How many different ways do you enjoy interacting with the abundant green of a forest, or the refreshing coolness of a running stream or a fast flowing rapid? I have always found nature a place for renewal, growth and healing. A place without man-made noises or light pollution and a place that most often creates a deeper awareness within me.
How have you experienced AWE?
According to the Oxford Dictionary, AWE is defined as "a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder." It is true that as I peaked over the sheer face at '12 second drop' at the top of McKinnon’s pass, I felt a simultaneous wave of fear and respect for the intensity of the height at which I stood.

I have always had an adoration of trees…
When I was preparing to move back to the United States after living in the Bahamas for 22 years I felt a strong pull to be in this verdant corner of Connecticut. I had already traveled back and forth for 3 years to visit my son at school. My children will tell you that there was never a visit where the trees were not a regular topic of conversation. During each trip I fell in love with this corner a little more. I have always had an adoration of trees and you will see them recorded in many ways in this collection at Gallery 38.
“….we learn that Nature is always ready to give to us and support us. We only need to open ourselves to that infinite abundance and connect with it. Gratitude is the way we contact Nature’s generosity and bring its support directly into our lives. This expansive, engaged relationship with Nature reestablishes our mind-body system to its healthy, balanced state. Instead of feeling constricting fear and anxiety, our expansive awareness now blossoms and shares its generosity of spirit. Expanded awareness improves the entire functioning of your body as well, from your cells to your genes”

Many miles walked through special places
I plunged into appreciation for nature’s complexity, endless beauty and healing powers. When I returned to the US I found a much deeper sense of gratitude for my home and the nature that surround us here in the Northwest corner. I believe we are truly blessed to live among these trees and ponds and trails.
